Addis Ababa to Host CODATU Conference

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is to host the 15th Cooperation for urban Mobility in the Developing World Conference. The conference will be held from the 22-26th of October under the theme of ‘Urban Mobility for (Re) Shaping Cities’ according to the organizing committee.

The conference is intended to facilitate the exchange of ideas on policy, research and coordinated transport management explained Bedilu Assefa, Chairperson of the organizing committee.

The conference will also create an opportunity to learn from the best practices of different countries and promote unexploited investment opportunities in Ethiopia and create trade links in line with national development goals he said.

The CODATU conference is expected to forge cooperation on enhancing public transport systems as well as providing means of sharing simple and easily adaptable measures tailored for the needs of developing countries added Bedilu.

Sub themes to be discussed at the conference include the form of governance required to promote sustainable mobility, the means of planning the future of urban areas, sustaining transport infrastructure in cities and the links between town planning and transport.

The biennial conference is expected to attract an estimated 700 participants this year and more than 30 research papers will be presented at the time said Bedilu.

CODATU is an organization that grew out of the World Conference on Urban Transport held in Dakar in 1980. It is now an international organization promoting animation, scientific, technical, economic and social exchange in relation to urban mobility.
