Wilo S.E to Expand its Presence in Ethiopia

The renowned water pumps manufacturer Wilo S.E, a German company is planning to open local representative office in Ethiopia. Willo's medium term plan include opening a subsidiary company and assembly plant in Ethiopia to further market its products.

Jean Olivia Fortia, Vice President Africa Division of Wilo said the visit in Ethiopia to promote its products with potential customers was a part of a greater trip to African countries. The firm stopped over in three West African countries, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria, before its visit to Ethiopia. The company is also planning similar trips to Kenya and Zambia.

Ethiopian Leather Industry PLC to Export Shoe

Ethiopian Leather Industry PLC (ELICO) is planning to start export of shoes to European and American markets upon completion and commencement of operation of its shoe making plant at the end of the coming month.

Ethiopian Leather Industry PLC has been exporting processed leather materials and produce bags, clothes and other leather made accessories.

A Dutch Company Won Bid to Supply Heifers to Ethiopia

Van der Ploeg International BV, a Dutch company, has won a tender floated by the Ethiopian Agriculture Growth Project (AGP) to supply pregnant heifers to Ethiopia. The bid was opened on September 23, 2013, invited local and international bidders for the supply of bovine semen, bull, doses of hormone, Holsteins and parent poultry.

The bid attracted the interest of nine local and international bidders, however, only five bidders made an offer, including Van der Ploeg International BV.

High Participant Turnout at the AACCSA Trade Fair

The 17th yearly Addis Abeba Chamber of Commerce & Sectoral Association trade fair has witnessed unusually high turnout of foreign companies participating in the trade fair to exhibit there products, services and look for local representatives in Ethiopia. Participant are also searching for market in Ethiopia.

The trade fair, which will be concluded today, attracted a little more than 300 companies out of this 213  are foreign companies. Companies from Italy contribute the largest share of foreign participants with 58 companies exhibiting there products and services. National Bank of Ethiopia Set to Regulate Micro Insurance Services

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), the country's central bank is drawing up a policy framework and drafting a directive which will regulate micro insurance business in Ethiopia. Micro-insurance targets low income people  without access to the mainstream insurance services – is still at its earliest stage in Ethiopia.

Insurance companies have been giving micro insurance services as early as 2011 through international financing from organizations like International Labor Organization (ILO) and Milliman Consulting targeting crop, livestock and life insurance services.
