Vodacom Considers Entering Ethiopia

Vodacom’s CEO Shameel Joosub said Vodacom was considering entering Ethiopia with Safaricom, its Kenyan associate company. The CEO said Ethiopia was “probably the most attractive” potential new market for Vodacom.

“But the opportunities are not that clear yet — there are indications that Ethiopia will issue additional licenses, and potentially take in a strategic partner for the existing [government-owned] Ethio Telecom, but there’s nothing yet in terms of actual processes and so on,” the CEO said.

Ethiopian Restarted Commercial Flights to Mogadishu

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest Aviation Group in Africa and SKYTRAX certified Four Star Global Airline, resumed commercial flights to Mogadishu, Somalia after 41 years. Ethiopian will fly three times a week to Mogadishu.

Ethiopian Government to Exert Maximum Effort to Balance Import, Export Trade: Ministry

The Ministry of Trade and Industry stated that the government and pertinent institutions are committed to exert maximum effort to balance the country’s import and export trade. Misganaw Arega, Trade and Industry State Minister, said Ethiopia’s trade balance between import and export should be narrowed to reach the long-term goals of the country.

President Briefs Attendees of AIF about Investment Activities Being Carried Out by Ethiopia

Ethiopia’s President Sahlework Zewde, who traveled to Johannesburg on Wednesday to attend the Africa Investment Forum (AIF), attended the “Championing Investments: Presidential Chats’ Panel Discussion” yesterday at the opening session of the forum. Sahlework pointed out the activities which were being carried out in Ethiopia to attract investment during a discussion which focused on concrete and transformative actions by Heads of State for a new business Africa. The president said Ethiopia’s electric railway and Ethiopian Airlines help in attracting investment.
