Ethiopia Needs Three Years to Develop Petroleum Resource

Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural GasThree more years are needed to develop petroleum resources located in Ogaden area, the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas announces.

Petroleum Licensing and Administration Director at the ministry, Ketsela Tadesse, has said that the additional three years are required to address activities that “need to be done before entering into the production process.” He has further elaborated that hundreds of additional wells need to be drilled and various infrastructure facilities should also be put in place before the petroleum development could be in full swing.

Social Enterprise World Forum to be Held in Ethiopia

Ethiopias capital, Addis Ababa, will host Social Enterprise World Forum 2019 in the coming October. This will be the twelfth event of the yearly forum, and the first time ever to be hosted by a lower income country. The aim of the upcoming round of the forum is “to catalyze the area's young and dynamic social enterprise movement – both within Ethiopia and more widely across the continent.”

Ethiopia’s First Commercial Biodiesel Plant Goes Operational This Month

The first-of-its-kind biodiesel refinery plant is to go operational in December 2018 in Adama Industrial Zone, with an annual biodiesel production of over 70 million liters. The biodiesel refinery will make use of 1.4 million hectares of reforestation, of the drought resistant biofuel plant Jatropha, to provide renewable biofuel resource. This is one of the ten similar plants API plants to build by 2025, which are expected to generate a total of 730 million liters of biofuel annually.

API, African Power Initiative, has set out to launch this commercial biodiesel refinery after erecting a successful pilot refinery plant. Marcos Bitew, CEO of API, said that their team is “incredibly excited and gratified for the world to see our vision of sustainable energy production coming to fruition in Ethiopia.”

Ethiopia: Ambassador Discusses with Greater Seattle Partners and Boeing

Kassa Tekleberhan, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the United States, and senior executives of the Greater Seattle Partners (GSP) and Boeing Company held a discussion on how to improve business and investment relationships between Ethiopia and the US, focusing on the city of Seattle and its surroundings.

Greater Seattle Partners and Boeing agreed to give the necessary support for the establishment of an Ethiopian Business Council in Seattle.

Ethiopia: Ultra-Modern City Mall to be Constructed in Addis

A foundation stone for the construction of ultra-modern city mall project in Addis Ababa was laid this evening by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The mall will be constructed on 360,000 square meters of land around La Gare area and it will have 4,000 apartments, 3 hotels, office buildings and other outdoor service areas. The project costs Birr 50 billion.
