Carrefour has announced a franchise and supply partnership with Queens Supermarket PLC, a subsidiary of Midroc Investment Group, to introduce Carrefour-branded retail operations in Ethiopia.

Under the agreement, Carrefour will provide its branding, product range and operational support as Midroc’s retail network is transitioned under the Carrefour banner. The companies said the first outlets are expected to be rebranded by the first half of 2026. The partnership initially covers 13 existing stores, with the companies also outlining an expansion plan that could add a further 17 stores by 2028, subject to implementation.

The move forms part of Carrefour’s international franchise strategy under its “Carrefour 2026” plan. Carrefour International Partnership, which manages the group’s franchise relationships, said it is working with Midroc teams on store conversion and longer-term growth.

Midroc, through Queens Supermarket, is expected to lead day-to-day operations locally, while integrating Carrefour’s retail standards and supply processes. Midroc also said it plans to link locally produced items, such as coffee, tea, spices and fresh produce, into the Carrefour supply chain where feasible.

Carrefour said it operates a multi-format network of more than 15,000 stores across over 40 countries, with 2024 sales reported at Euro 94.6 billion.
