United States’ Export-Import Bank approved a loan of USD 281 million to Ethiopian Airlines Group. The loan would be used to finance the import of several Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircrafts which will be fully imported by the end of March 2023. The Board of Directors of the bank approved the loan unanimously.
The airline aims to double its fleet by increasing its number of aircraft to 271 and increase its destinations to 207 by the year 2035. The current Ethiopian Airlines’ fleet includes Airbus A350, Boeing 787-8, Boeing 787-9, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 777-200LR, Boeing 777-200, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 737-8, Freighter, and Bombardier Dash 8-400 double cabin with an average fleet age of seven years.
