Ethiopian Embassy in China Hosted First-Ever Pharmaceutical Trade Investment Forum

The Ethiopian Embassy in China hosted the first-ever virtual trade and investment forum on the development of the pharmaceutical sector in collaboration with Beijing Bei Mao Jing Yuan Health Consulting Company. More than 45 companies and 100 participants attended the forum.

Embassy in China Forum on Pharmaceuticals SectorAmbassador Teshome Toga, Ethiopian Ambassador to China, stated that the forum aimed to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Ethiopia by promoting Ethiopia’s special focus on the pharmaceutical sector. The Ambassador called on Chinese companies to visit and invest in Ethiopia.

Ambassador Gebeyehu Ganga (PhD), Director General of the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on his part, noted that the Government of Ethiopia would provide every support for Chinese investors who engaged in the pharmaceutical sector.

The representatives of the Ministry of Health, Food and Drug Authority, and Ethiopian Investment Commission also participated in the forum. They briefed the participants of the forum on the attention given to the pharmaceutical sector development in Ethiopia and potential market opportunities in the country for foreign investors who would engage in the sector.

According to Ethiopian Embassy in China, Ambassador Teshome Toga also held a virtual discussion with Dr. Shen Yaping, Vice President of Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine Pharmaceutical Company, last week. The Ambassador briefed the Company about market opportunities in Ethiopia. He stated that Ethiopia presented favorable market opportunities with specially designated locations for foreign investors that were interested to invest in the pharmaceutical sector.

The Ethiopian Government has set a goal to become a pharmaceutical manufacturing hub by 2025.
