Ethiopia's Ministry of Revenues has collected over 147.36 billion birr in five months. The amount stands at 92.69 percent of the 147.66 billion birr the Ministry set as a target for the period.
Lake Ayalew, Minister of Revenues, noted the achievement has been registered despite the coronavirus pandemic, the security challenges in the country, as well as other problems. The amount has shown a rise of 16.27 percent, over 20.62 billion birr, compared to the same period last year.
Out of the 147.36 billion birr, 54.21 billion birr has been collected from customs duties, while the rest, over 93.15 billion birr, has been secured from domestic tax.
Mr. Lake commended taxpayers who paid their taxes on time, staff of the Ministry of Revenues and Customs Commission, as well as all supportive institutions and the general public for the achievement.
It is to be recalled that the Ministry of Revenues collected over 70 billion birr during the first quarter of the current fiscal year that started on July 8, 2021.
