avocadoesEthiopian farmers in the regions of Amhara and Oromia are preparing to export avocados to the international market. 447 farmers in the Amhara region, as well as several others in the Oromia region, are prepared to export high-quality avocadoes, it has been learned.

Nine agricultural clusters in the Amhara region will soon begin exporting Hass (dark green and bumpy type) avocadoes cultivated on 200 hectares of land, Ethiopia's Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) announced. The Agency related that 447 farmers in North Mecha Woreda of West Gojjam Zone are taking part in producing export-standard avocado produce.

The Agricultural Transformation Agency noted that 1,600 quintals of avocado produce from 156 of the 337 farmers has already been collected, prepared, weighed, and packed and made ready to be distributed for the international market.

On the other hand, farmers in the Oromia region are also poised to export 16 tons of avocado produce to various countries.

Ethiopia started shipping avocadoes via refrigerated train to the European market in August 2020, and a second-round has been shipped in September this year
