Belayab, mPharma Open First Haltons Pharmacy in Ethiopia

Belayab Pharmaceuticals PLC announced it is opening the first Halton's Pharmacy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in partnership with mPharma. The opening of the pharmacy is subsequent of a franchise agreement entered in March 2021 by Belayab and mPharma.

The agreement has been entered with the intent "to develop sustainable and scalable health impact in Ethiopia by improving access to quality essential medicines for affordable and safe treatment."

The Haltons Pharmacy is now open around Sarbet in Addis Ababa.

Mike Ghebru, a shareholder at Belayab Pharmaceuticals, expressing excitement at the opening of the pharmacy, said his company expects “to do a lot more work in the near future" in this regard, with Ethiopia's population and economy on the rise with increasing demand in investment and strengthening in health systems.

Naa Akwetey, SVP of Strategy and Business Development at mPharma, remarked, “mPharma is deepening its long-standing commitment to Africa as a whole by increasing access to health care resources in the region.”

“We continue to work with our retail partners to transform community pharmacies into primary care centers that provide value-added services to all patients so they can live not just longer but healthier lives,” Ms. Akwetey pointed out.

Powered by mPharma’s proprietary Bloom technology, the new Haltons Pharmacy in Addis Ababa is expected to provide patients with access to affordable and quality medications.

Haltons Limited has become a subsidiary of the Ghana headquartered mPharma following an acquisition in 2019.

mPharma has 850 pharmacies and drugstores in six African countries, according to the company's website.
