French telecom giant Orange has declared an interest in buying a stake from the partial privatization of Ethiopia's state-owned telecom services provider Ethio Telecom.
Henok Teferra Shawl, Ethiopia's Ambassador to France, tweeted he had "fruitful discussions with the team of [Orange]." Mr. Henok further noted Ethiopia "remains very attractive to foreign investors, with fast-growing economy and income of [over 100 million people]."
Ethio Telecom has last month launched a tendering process, to sell a 40 percent stake of the company to private investors, reserving 5 percent for the general public in Ethiopia, and a controlling 55 percent to remain in the hands of the Ethiopian government.
