Ethiopia to Construct 509 km Long New Roads

The Ethiopian Road Authority inked an agreement with five Ethiopian and one Chinese contractor to construct 509 km long roads at a cost of $350 million (11.6 billion birr). The contractors the Authority entered an agreement with are Sunshine Construction PLC, YOTEK Construction PLC, Cross-Land Construction PLC, BEAKA General Business PLC, Sur Construction PLC, and China TCJu Civil Engineering Corp.

The cost of the roads to be constructed, which have a total length of 509km, is to be covered by the Ethiopian government.

The roads to be constructed are: Debre Birhan–Deneba-Leme and Juhur-Deneba Roads (108.25Km); Fike Segeg-Gerbo Denen Road (83.844); Humbo-Tebela-Abaya Road (26Km); Dayo-Girja-Kibremengist and Melka Desta-Mojo Road (63.75Km); Jigjiga-Gelelesh-Degahamdo-Segeg Road (109.82); Hawlatula-Wetraresa-Yayu-Wurache Road Project (85.45Km); and Zalambesa-Alitena-Merewa-Eidagahamus Road (32Km).

The roads to be constructed, which are currently gravel, will be upgraded to asphalt, according to the Ethiopian Roads Authority.

The construction of the roads is expected to be completed in four years.
