Ethiopian Mapping Agency Invites Bids for Aerial Photography

The Ethiopian Mapping Agency put out an invitation for companies interested in conducting aerial photography in digital format and photo-grammetric processing last week. The tender will remain open until the 15th of December.

The invitation includes aerial photography of 23 major urban areas including Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa and regional states in an effort to prepare a national cadastral map.

The cadastral map is required to register land parcels at the national level to help the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction to assess and manage land and property in Ethiopia.

The topographic pictures generated by aerial photography will be converted into three dimensional digital pictures for the new national cadastral map according to Sabit Yasin Data Collection and Organization Update Directorate of the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction.

The preparation of the national cadastral map is a collaborative effort between the Addis Ababa Land Information Project Office, the Information Network Security Agency, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education and the regional states.

The project is expected to be completed in three years and will be financed by the Ethiopian government.

The national project is being modeled on the city cadastral map upgrade undertaken by the Integrated Land Management Information System Project Development Office of the Addis Ababa City Administration.

It is to be remembered that DAT/EM Systems International has finalized the sale and installation of 29 SUMMIT Evolution workstations for the Urban Development Capacity Building Office of the Ethiopian Ministry of Urban Development and Construction.

The work stations will provide technical support for the Base Map Preparation Project.
