Ethiopia: Council of Ministers Seeks $866 Mn Additional Budget

Ethiopia's Council of Ministers has proposed an additional budget of $866.46 million (27.9 billion birr) for the current Ethiopian fiscal year, which will end in July. The Council has referred the proposal along with other draft laws to the parliament.

Out of the additional budget the Council proposed, $559 million (18 billion birr) is for the implementation of the homegrown economic reform agenda, $245.34 million (7.9 billion birr) for national application of equal pay for equal work, and $62.12 million (2 billion birr) for safety net program, it was learned.

Concurrently, the Council of Ministers also discussed the proposed loan agreements for Debre Markos- Mota Road Improvement Project, the establishment of Center of Excellence for Adama Science and Technology University,  and the Second National Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program, among other issues.

For the current Ethiopian fiscal year that started on July 7, the parliament had approved a budget close to $13.37 billion (386.9 billion birr).
