Ministry of Culture and Tourism conducted rating for hotels in Tigray Region, Northern Ethiopia. Gezahegn Abate, Public and International Relations Director at the Ministry, explained 8 out of 34 hotels were rated by the Ministry.

10 hotels were ineligible for the rating since they had problems regarding their license, Gezahegn explained.

According to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, 13 hotels failed to meet the requirements.

The rating by the Ministry shows only Planet Hotel is a four star hotel in Tigray State. On the other hand, the State has 2 three star hotels; the Meqele based Axum Hotel-II and Desta International Hotel.

5 hotels were also rated three stars. Out of these 5 hotels 3 of them are found in the ancient Axum city.

Gezahegn explained the first round star rating of hotels will be concluded once the Ministry covers hotels in every state.
