Captain Negasi Zerihun, Projects Erection and Installation Head at the Corporation Power Engineering Industry, said two turbines are instated to generate electric power.
In addition, two machines that channel the leftover sugarcane to the turbines are prepared, he notified.
When METEC starts power generation, 16 megawatts electricity will be consumed by Omo Sugar Factory and the rest will be transferred to the main grid, Captain Negasi said.
This time, 67 megawatts electricity power is generated from the leftovers of sugarcane in Metehara, Wonji and Fincha sugar factories. Of 67 megawatt power, the 34 is used by the factories and the rest is channeled to the national grid, Captain Negasi noted.
Ethiopia aims to generate 448 megawatts from sugar factories to be constructed by the end of GTP II period.
