METEC, NORINCO Deliver Trains for Ethio-Djibouti Railway Project

metecMetals and Engineering Corporation of Ethiopia and NORINCO, Chinese Company have delivered 130 and 185 trains, respectively to the Ethiopian Railway Corporation that carry passengers and freight for the Ethio-Djibouti railway, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

According to Dereje Tefera, Corporate Communication Affairs Head at the Corporation, for Ethio-Djibouti railway to start full service a total of 1,171 trains are required.

The new trains operate on both electric and diesel power, said Dereje.

The Ethio-Djibouti railway project is expected to be completed in October 2015; the remaining tasks are installation of power lines and signal reception and communication equipments, added Dereje.

China Railway Group (CREC) and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) are undertaking the railway construction project.
