The third International conference on financing for Development opens today here in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, The Daily Monitor reported.
High level political representatives, including head of states and government, Ministers of Finance, foreign affairs and development cooperation across the world convene to attend the Conference. Non-governmental organizations and business sector entities also participate in the Conference.
The Conference is expected to result in an inter-governmental negotiated and agreed outcome which should constitute an important contribution to and support the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Concrete commitments on finance, trade, debt, governance, technology and innovation for the next 15 years are also expected.
The Conference will stay until July 16, 2015.
Ethiopia is the first third world country to host the Conference.
United Nations (UN) held the first International Conference on Financing for Development in Monterrey, Mexico in March 2002.
