Prime Minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegn and Muktar Kedir, Oromia Regional State President laid the cornerstone for the construction of a 7 billion Birr industrial complex undertaken by Repi Wilmar Industrial S.C, the joint venture of Ethiopian Repi Soap and Detergent S.C and Singaporean Wilmar International Ltd on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Sebeta town of Oromia Regional State.

Repi Soap and Detergent S.C and Wilmar International Ltd have signed a collective investment agreement in July 2014 for the upgrading of an existing manufacturing facility and building new industrial complex to produce edible oil, soap, and detergents, flour, oil seed crushing and refining and sesame seed cleaning, according to Ethiopian herald.

The project is to be constructed on 100 hectares of land in two phases with the cost of 350 million USD. Upon completion, it is expected to create job opportunities for 10,000 people.

Wilmar International Ltd has been providing Viking brands edible oil to Ethiopia over the past 10 years. Wilmar International Ltd is one of the largest companies listed on the Singapore stock exchange.
