Ethiopia’s population will approach 90 million in the current Ethiopian year, Central Statistics Agency (CSA) revealed.

During a press conference the agency’s Public Vital Statistics Sector Interim Deputy Director, Asalefew Abera, noted the nation’s population hit 87.9 million in last Ethiopian year.

According to him the agency estimates the population to reach 136.7 million in a matter of three decades. This will make Ethiopia the second most populace country in Africa following Nigeria.

There is a decline in the annual population growth, from 2.6 percent to 2.4 percent. According to deputy director, the decline is healthy and is consistent with the economic growth of Ethiopia.

The report CSA made public was one prepared in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), ministries and Non Governmental Organizations.
