A referral hospital dubbed after the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi built at an outlay of 200 Million Birr in Somali State is going to go operational in a one month time. This was disclosed by the State’s Health Bureau.
Meles Zenawi Memorial Referral Hospital was completed a year ago but it did not start giving service due to lack of necessary facilities and skilled manpower, Dr. Umer Mohammed, head of the bureau explained.
The hospital is expected to start giving service in mid February. Water and electricity facility is already installed and 100 health professionals are also hired. The procurement of 270 beds has also been made.
Umer also noted the Hospital is going to, among other health services, render internal diagnosis, emergency, child and maternal care. Nonetheless, in the future other health care services can also be gained from the hospital.
It is expected that Meles Zenawi Memorial Referral Hospital is going to serve 5 million people from Somali State and other neighboring states.
