Ethiopia: Berhan Got a New President

berhanbankBerhan International Bank (BIB) got Abreham Alero as its new President after securing the approval of National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE).

Belachew Bogale who was the founding president of the bank since its inception resigned from his position on September 2014. It was following this Abreham, the then vice president, became the interim president.

Commenting on the development Solomn Alemseged, Board Chairman of BIB, said, “We requested that NBE approve our proposal of making Abreham president a month ago as we realized there was no another person better fit to be the president of the Bank.’’

Berhan is not the only bank who saw its president leave in the past couple of months. Three other banks Bank of Abyssinia (BoA), Debub Global Bank (DGB) and Lion International Bank (LIB), also saw their presidents leave their position in the past few months.

According to Fortune, Abreham went to Addis Ababa University (AAU) and received a BA Degree in Management. He furthered his education by studying at South Bank University, England, as his graduate study.

His CV also shows he has been in the banking industry for the past 20 years starting his career at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia as a clerk. He later rose through ranks from bank clerk to management levels, including Compliance Division manager. In addition to this, Aberham also worked at Enat Bank as a project manager during its establishment. He spent last year working a s the vice president of BIB.

Back in June 2009 when Berhan was established, it had a paid up and subscribed capital of 95 Million Birr and 137 Million Birr respectively. However, the bank’s paid up capital has now grown to 450 Million Birr.
