The power transmission line project that has a capacity of carrying 400 Kilovolt, Gibe II-Wollayta Sodo, is only three months away before completion.
The project is being carried out in the aim of enabling Ethiopia’s southern part get electricity from the national energy grid system.
Public Relation Head at Ethiopia Electric Power (EEP), Misikir Negash, noted upon completion the project will bless urban and rural areas of the western part of Southern Nation Nationalities and Peoples’ with electricity.
It was two years ago that the project was launched in the aim of serving electricity to this part of the nation form the Gilgel Gibe II hydropower dam in Oromia State that has an installed capacity of 420 Megawatt.
According to Misikir the project which cost 154 Million Birr is being carried out by local firm. He explained, the project is a proof Ethiopia has reached to a point where it has the ability to undertake such projects with its own local skill and labor.
