Ethiopia: MoU to Beat Shareholders Associations Challenges

Aiming to tackle shareholder associations’ document authentication, registration and other prolonged working procedure the Ministry of Trade has concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, with Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association (ECCSA), Document Authentication Office and Ethiopian Investment Agency.

During the signing ceremony Kebede Chane, Minister for Trade, said “Key issues raised at various consultative forms between the government and the private sector necessitated the signing of the MoU”. He further noted the documents were prepared by a technical committee and also the government and the private sector has thoroughly discussed it.

Kebede also stated discussion has been made between the government and the Chamber on shareholder associations and the challenges being faced to facilitate their role in the nation’s development. It is to end the protracted working procedures stakeholders face that the MoU was signed, he added.

For his part ECCSA’s President, Solomon Afework, said the MoU will enhance overcoming the challenges the private sector is facing. It is a remarkable achievement by the Chamber to resolve its challenges by discussing it with the government, he added.
