Ethiopia: COMESA held 27th Meeting on Regional Third Party Motor Vehicle Insurance

comesaCommon Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) organized the 27th meeting of the bureau council on the regional third party motor vehicle insurance, also known as Yellow Card scheme, yesterday October 23, 2013 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Birhane Gidey, representing COMESA Secretary General said, the meeting could serve as a visible platform to show the commitment of the regional economic integration agenda.

 

The Yellow Card has been successful and through this scheme, COMESA has contributed in increasing competitiveness by reducing cross border transport and transaction costs. The Yellow Card is the leading trade and transport facilitation instrument widely used, according to Birhane.

Adnasu Nebebe, Regional Integration Director at Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development said, the Yellow Card has been widely accepted by Ethiopian motorists and has greatly contributed to the facilitation of cross border movement of vehicles, goods and person in the region.
