Preparations for the construction of the 1000 kilo meter long Ethiopia Kenya power grid line has been finalized. The tender document will be floated this week with construction scheduled to start this year, the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company announced.
The power transmission line project also include a separate project for the construction and erection of power convertor stations in Ethiopian and Kenyan cities capable of transmitting 2000 Mega watts. The contractor for this project has already been shortlisted.The Ethiopia Kenya power grid line project has already secured the necessary financing. The construction is projected to be completed within two years period and scheduled to go operational in 2017. The Kenyan government has found that power import form Ethiopia, a country endowed with huge hydro power potential is cost effective.
The Ethiopia Kenya power line project is financed by governments of the two countries, World Bank, African Development Bank and the French Agency for Development.
