Arakele plc is a social enterprise Fashion Design College located in Addis Ababa which provides government accredited training in sewing and design. We provide 6 months courses for day time classes and 7 months for evening classes.

Arakele graduates don't just leave with a Certificate of Competence (CoC) Ethiopian government certificate; these are industry-recognized certifications that validate their skills and expertise.We work with students at their own pace and our aim is for every student to succeed with one-to-one tuition and guidance as necessary.

These credentials open doors to exciting opportunities in the global fashion industry.

Arakele has been commended with the status of a “model” school by the Ethiopian TVET agency; we offer a convenient location, a peaceful compound, excellent learning materials, experienced teachers, and overall student satisfaction.

OUR MISSION

v  To provide students of all backgrounds with quality, skills-based training in both traditional and modern clothing design.

v  To equip students with the self-confidence and life skills they need to succeed.

v  To help graduates obtain a livelihood, either working for themselves, for others or even with Arakele.

v  To increase the number of women in paid employment within the textile sector in Ethiopia and to support the local Ethiopian economy by sourcing staff and materials locally including sewing machines, materials, and furnishings.

WHAT MAKES ARAKELE A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE?

v  To become an income-generating enterprise able to sustain its own mission.

v  The core belief underpinning social enterprises is that social businesses should be designed to solve societal problems, are economically self-sustainable, and use their profits to further their impact.

v  Arakele was one of the first Ethiopian projects of its kind to be recognized by the British Council as a Social Enterprise.

v  The Council defines Social Enterprises as “businesses which trade in order to address social and environmental problems”.

v  Social enterprise businesses generate income like other businesses but reinvest profits into their social mission.

v  Social enterprise businesses create jobs; currently, Arakele works with garment production partner Rama Garment; all Arakele students intern with Rama at the course end and some students are hired upon graduation.

6 Months Courses:  Learn all about hand and machine sewing (technical operation), pattern making, sketching, and designing.

If you are interested in learning a variety of sewing skills in both traditional and contemporary styles and wish to gain the skills and confidence to use an industrial sewing machine to make garments, then this course is ideal for the student who wishes to expand her/his career potential in the expanding garment industry here in Ethiopia.
