Ethio Telecom Earned 10 Billion Birr

Ethio-telecom has earned 10 billion birr from the sale of SIM cards and mobile credits in the just ended financial year. The revenue earned by the corporation does not include the money earned by the 173 shops owned by the telecom across Ethiopia.

The corporation has planned to earn 8.2 million birr from the sale of SIM cards but was only able to collect 7.5 million while it earned just 9.8 billion birr of the 13 birr it had planned to raise from mobile credit cards.

The lower then projected earnings in these areas may prohibit the telecom from meeting the 17 billion birr revenue that it had planned for the fiscal year according to expert sources. If the telecom is able to meet its projected earning its earnings will be almost double of what it had earned in the previous fiscal year.

It is to be remembered that Ethio-Telecom recently introduced a new service dubbed ‘Mobile 150’. The new service allows customers to call, text, and use the internet for 150 birr with 150 minutes of domestic calls, 130 text messages and 50 megabytes of downloads which translates to a 20% discount over normal charges.

The corporation has also introduced a range of features such as call back me back request, credit transfer and group call services in the past year. The telecom has also subcontracted with ZTE, Chinese telecom company, to expand its telecom capacity at a total cost of 1.5 billion US dollars.
