The under construction Hawassa Internation Airport, located at the capital of Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples State, is announced to start operation soon.
The construction was started 14 months ago by Yotek Construction Plc at a cost of 457 million Birr. The construction includes 3 km asphalt runway, taxiway, apron and passenger terminal.

The Hawassa City Administration Investment Promotion Office revealed that the city issued licenses to investors who have collectively registered capital exceeding Birr 1.1 billion in the first quarter of the 2024/25 fiscal year.
Hawassa City earned over 48 million birr revenue from tourists who visited attraction in the city in the past six months, The Ethiopian Herald reported.

Hawassa is hosting the National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises’ Exhibition and Bazaar for the first time. The city was chosen to host the exhibition, among other reasons, to enhance Regional States’ capacity and experience in preparing national exhibitions.
The exhibition is expected to stimulate the economy of Hawassa. It will see the participation of 224 micro and small enterprises and 22 small and medium manufacturing industries. In addition, it is anticipated that the exhibition will welcome more than 35 thousand visitors.
