Ethiopia: COMESA Launches Digital Payments Platform to Boost Cross-Border Trade

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has launched a Digital Retail Payments Platform that will allow businesses across its 21 member states, including Ethiopia, Kenya, and Egypt, to settle trade transactions directly in local currencies.
Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) prepared a five-year strategic plan for an Ethiopian Enterprise engaged in production and export of footwear, Ethiopian News Agency reported.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia awarded Computer Business Machines (CBM), a Lebanese IT vendor, a contract for the supply and installation of 200 Automatic Teller Machines (ATM). The ATMs are said to be worth 51 Million Birr.
The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) earned US$ 1.1 billion from export trade in the 2012/13 fiscal year, according to The Reporter.
