Ethiopia: Amhara Region Mines 19,950 Kilograms of Opal and Gold

The Amhara region has saved more than USD 113 million over the past 10 months by producing 1.43 million tons of rice, reducing the need for costly imports and bolstering the local economy, officials announced.

Amhara Regional State issued investment licenses to 4,724 investors with a combined capital of Birr 483.7 billion during the concluded fiscal year. Around 957,000 jobs are anticipated to be created once these investments are up and running, with manufacturing being the primary industry for the approved investments. The sector earned 1,477.7 hectares of the total 32,157 hectares of land allotted to 1,288 investors.
Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia has earned over 933.6 million Ethiopian birr from tourists who visited natural, historic and religious sites in the State during the concluded Ethiopian Fiscal Year, the State culture, Tourism and Parks Bureau said.
Wagaw Haile, Heritage Protection and Tourism Development office with the bureau, told Ethiopian News Agency over the weekend that over 6.7 million tourists visited historic and religious sites in the State.
Revenue from tourism and the number of tourists visited the sites increased by over 500.1 million birr and 4.4 million respectively, Wagaw said. He attributed the success for infrastructure development and promotion works. The tourism sector has created jobs for 35,000 residents, Wagaw added.
The Semien Mountains National Park, the castles of King Fasiledes, the Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela and the Monasteries in Lake Tana are major toursis attractions in Amhara Regional State.

Mines Resource Development Bureau of Amhara Regional State gave inspection licenses to 11 investors who would engage in cement manufacturing. The investors are expected to start construction after concluding their tests. Two companies have already started constructing their factories.
