The Ethiopia - Djibouti Gage Railway Line has launched a commuter train service from Addis Ababa to Djibouti with 19 stations, adding five to the previously existing 14 stations.
The construction of a 760-km long crude oil pipeline connecting the Ogaden area in Ethiopia to the port of Djibouti is to be commenced, Ethiopia's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced.
The Ethiopia-Djibouti Railway (EDR) said it has secured $86.13 million in revenues in the year 2021, showing an increase of 37.5 percent compared to the previous year.
In the first half of 2020, the Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway has seen a 51 percent rise in revenues, despite the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, it was disclosed. The railway’s revenue had increased 45 percent in 2019 compared to that of 2018 and has seen a rise of 51.38 percent in the first half of 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year.
The Ethio-Djibouti Railway Corporation (EDR) has announced it is planning to double its freight and passenger service trips to match up the fast-growing demand on its Ethiopia-Djibouti route.
