Ethiopia is set to establish a National Accreditation Office (ENAO). The institution will be charged to accredit the competence of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) performing activities like calibrations, tests, inspections and inspections.
ENAO has been organizing offices, preparing manuals and training personnel according to Nigussue Kibru Head of Communication and Public Service. 30 employees were trained by the South African National Accreditation System and three days worth of training on the General Accreditation Standard ISO/IEC17011 was given by experts from India in December he said.
The Ethiopian government is proposing to establish the Food, Beverage & Pharmaceuticals Industry Development Institute and the Chemicals & Construction Materials Development Institute. The two institutes are expected to be operational in the coming fiscal year after the Council of Ministers grants its approval.

Decision to set up the enterprise was reached after the failure of several attempts to develop the natural gas reserves in the region by granting petroleum development licenses according to a senior official with the Ministry of Miners.
The petroleum development enterprise will offer an opportunity for a joint venture with a reputable international oil and gas company explained the official.
Ethiopia is set to build the first railway academy in Africa to provide competent manpower for the railway projects to be constructed in the GTP II period.
