Ethiopia has been voted as this year’s top destination in the world for tourists by the European Council on Tourism and Trade (ECTT), a non-profit group of European Union tourism trade organizations.
Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL) announced on Monday that it had achieved a profit of over Birr 6 billion in the previous Ethiopian fiscal year. ESL surpassed its target of Birr 5.4 billion, achieving over 100% of its plan. Additionally, the company successfully secured USD 480 million out of its planned USD 500 million, reaching 87% of its target.
Ethiopia will be self-sufficient in wheat production and will no longer need to import the crop soon, the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture announced. This is pursuant to wheat irrigation projects carried out in the Amhara and Oromia regions.
Ethiopia's Ministry of Finance announced that it has decided to allow the import of basic food items on a Franco Valuta basis, without requiring any foreign exchange permits. The items include cooking oil, wheat, sugar, milk, and rice.
Ethiopian Ministry of Finance has announced that, due to inflation caused by the imbalance between demand and supply of food items, it now lets such items be imported on the basis of Franco-Valuta for six months. The items allowed to imported on Franco-Valuta basis (without being required to have forex payable) are cooking oil, wheat, sugar, milk, and rice.
