The new directive which makes bulk container shipping mandatory for Ethiopian exporters has been met with opposition from international buyers.
The new shipping system replaces the 60 kilogram bags used to export coffee with one container size bag into which coffee is stored. Associations representing major importers from Germany and Switzerland wrote letters of complaint against the new bulk container shipping to their Embassies in Ethiopia, the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An international conference on coffee is to be held in Ethiopia according to the Ethiopian Coffee Exporters Association. The conference is to be held on the 8th and the 9th of November under the theme of: ‘Ethiopian Coffee Export Conference: Strengthening the Legacy of Our Coffee’.
It is expected that the conference will increase the status of Ethiopian coffee on the international market by promoting an exchange of information and sharing the vision for the sector according to Getachew Admas, Public Relations Officer with the association.
The conference also aims to discuss the opportunities and challenges that could potential encounter the coffee sector in the coming years as well as helping with meeting the goals for enhancing the export of coffee from Ethiopia in terms of volume, quality and foreign currency earning said Getachew.
Ethiopia is to host international conference on African textile industry for three days starting from October 19, 2015, Ethiopian News Agency reported.
