FAO announced it is launching a network of in-country innovation hubs in Ethiopia, established by FAO and Ethiopia's agricultural institutions, to support farmers and value chain actors. Similar hubs will also be set up in Dominica, Grenada, and Morocco.
The Farida Group based in Chennai, India has launched a tannery in Ethiopia. The tannery is intended to target the export market including to India.
The new tannery commissioned at the end of the last year is expected to have the potential capacity to manufacture an estimated 800,000 sq. ft of leather, said Rafeeque Ahmed, Chairman, Farida Group.
The factory was launched through Farida’s international subsidiary in Singapore. The plant will supply finished leather to the international markets as well as catering to the leather requirements of the Farida group according to Ahmed.Farm Africa launched a new project in Ethiopia’s Oromia region, to increase the sustainable production of high-quality coffee, thereby improving the livelihoods of over 130,000 forest coffee producers. The project is funded by High Water Global.
Farmers in Bale Zone of Oromia State earned over 36 million Ethiopian birr from sale of 485,000kg honey during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Ethiopian News Agency reported citing the Zonal Livestock Development and Health Office.
Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) disclosed the foreign direct investment (FDI) flow has grown by 35 percent in the last 6 months when compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. During the first half of the current fiscal year, Ethiopia has managed to attract 1.2 billion USD.
