The Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) plans to expand public services, lessen project delays, and increase resource utilization by presenting opportunities for public private partnership (PPP) to take part in railway.

The corporation’s CEO, Dr. Berhanu Beshah said though Ethiopia successfully constructed the first Light Rail Transit in East Africa and the Addis Ababa-Djibouti cross-border electrified standard gauge railway, the country still struggles with serious challenges including lack of capacity noting that “we need to further strengthen our capacity in planning, implementation, and maintaining various projects as well as expanding existing projects, and building new partnership to realize our ambitions.”

Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COIPA Capital, a company known for identifying high-yield investment opportunities, to advance strategic railway and logistics projects.

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance will assume the debt of the Ethiopian Railway Corporation after restructuring negotiations with Chinese creditors reached a final stage, giving the state owned enterprise a major financial reset.

The Ethiopian Railway Corporation is to terminate its consultancy agreement with Swedish National Road Consulting according to sources.

The subsidiary of the Swedish Transport Administration officially stopped operations on the Sebeta-Mei’so-Dewale railway project it was learned.

The consultancy agreement was terminated on the basis of the corporation’s agreement with Chinese Import-Export Bank, which is financing the project according to Debo Tunka, Deputy Chief Executive of the Infrastructure Division of ERC.

Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority has rated as a strong aviation in Africa by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Ethiopian News Agency reported.
