Ethiopian Roads Authority Awards 12 New Projects to Contractors

The Ethiopian Roads Authority announced that it has completed the 76km Maytsemri-Dima asphalt concrete road in Tigray State. The road is part of the Maytsemri-Dima-FiyelWuha-Abadi-Hawzen-Firewoyni road project. The construction took more than 534.4 million Ethiopian Birr, according to communication directorate of the Authority.
The Ethiopian government covered the full cost for construction of the road. A local contractor was awarded the project and the construction of the road is completed two months ahead of its original schedule, the directorate told Ethiopian News Agency on Saturday.
The Ethiopian Roads Authority is seeking 650 million US dollars from the African Development Bank. The authority, headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, plans to use the money to finalize the Road Sector Development Program by 2015.
The authority plans to utilize 350 million US dollars of the money it acquires from the African bank on five new projects.
The Ethiopian Roads Authority said it has planned to construct and renovate close to 20,700 km new and existing roads at a cost of 28.9 billion Ethiopian birr during the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year.
Lebu-Goro, DireDawa-Dewele, Lumame-Debre Markos, Gedo-Menebegna, Ambo-Woliso, Konso-Yabelo, Debrebirhan-Ankober, Ankober-Dulecha and Dulecha-Awash are among the new roads which the Authority plans to construct this year.
Over 18,000 km roads are to be constructed, improved, and renovated by Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) in 2018/19 fiscal year.
