Ethiopian Coffee Exports Rise by 38%
Coffee exports from Ethiopia rose by 38 percent in the fiscal year to 7 July 2011 as shipments of the beans
jumped, the Ministry of Trade said.
In a statement released yesterday the ministry said that the total amount of coffee exported over the period reached 2.8 billion dollars.
Coffee was Ethiopia's biggest source of revenue raising 841.7 million dollars from 196,118 tonnes of beans shipped.
Coffee sold at the 2020 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence (COE) scored $1,348,690, topping the previously held record of $830,245 in 2011 in El Salvador. The Ethiopia auction, however, had 28 lots for sale, against El Salvador's 42, which contributed to this auction's record-high average price of $28 per pound of coffee.
As coffee market blossoms in the south Chinese province of Guangdong, coffee beans from Ethiopia are getting a favorable welcome.
