The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) is to launch its first ever international mobile money transfer in partnership with WorldRemit. This will enable money senders spread across over 50 countries, most of which are expected to be Ethiopian diaspora, to make transfers to over 1.2 million “CBE wallets.” They will also be able to send money to any mobile number throughout Ethiopia.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), Ethiopia's largest bank, announced that it has raised loan service charge rates to 9.8 percent, from the previous 8.63 percent.
The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) secured third place among East Africa’s top banks with a capital of USD 929 million. The report of African Business claims that East Africa’s biggest bank, Equity Bank Group, is ranked 1st with USD 1.6 billion capital while the second place in the ranking table is secured by another Kenyan Bank, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, with a capital of USD 739 million.
The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), the largest bank in East Africa and owned by the Ethiopian government, declared it has collected a profit of over $295 million (9.33 billion birr) before tax during the first half of this fiscal year. In a related note, the other two government-owned financial institutions, the Development Bank of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Insurance Corporation collected profits of $30 million (951.6 million birr) and $13.53 million (427.89 million birr) during the period, respectively.
The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia has announced 3.7 billion in gross profits for the first half of the current fiscal year. The revenue earned has surpassed the bank’s target earnings as well as exceeding the bank’s performance for the same period in the previous financial year according to an official with CBE. 
The Commercial bank was able to mobilize tens of billions of birr in loans and savings also exceeding targets set said the official.
