Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Ranks Third Place Among East African Banks, Report

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) secured third place among East Africa’s top banks with a capital of USD 929 million. The report of African Business claims that East Africa’s biggest bank, Equity Bank Group, is ranked 1st with USD 1.6 billion capital while the second place in the ranking table is secured by another Kenyan Bank, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, with a capital of USD 739 million.

According to the report, the Ethiopian banking sector has shown performance improvement over the past year. Other Ethiopian banks which are among the top 20 East African banks include Awash International Bank, Dashen Bank, Bank of Abyssinia, and Ethiopian Development Bank, which rank 13th, 17th, 18th, and 19th, respectively.

CBE stands 32nd in the top 100 African banks table of the African Business report. Banks from Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco claim the top ten spots.
