Ethiopian Architects Awarded for Bank Designs

Awash International Bank, Ethiopia awarded three architectural firms for branch office building designs. The three firms presented architectural designs for AIB branches in Hawassa and Addis Ababa.

The design for the 6 storey Hawassa branch presented by MH Engineering was commended for flexible office arrangements by the jury which selected the winners.

Zeleke Belay’s design for the Awash Branch in Lideta, Addis Ababa offered easy street access while the Bulbula, Addis Ababa building design submitted by Studio Seven won for its simple composition, easy access, and good climate control potential according to the jury.

Ethiopian Artisan Miners Produce 2,552 Kg’s of Gold

Artisan Gold Miners in Ethiopia supplied an estimated 2,552 kilograms of gold worth more than 132.7 million US dollars to the National Bank in the first quarter of the current financial year according to the Ministry of Mines.

The gold was obtained from miners in the Benishangul, Oromia, Tigray, Gambella and Southern Regional States said Bacha Fuji, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Directorate of the Ministry of Mines.

The amount of gold supplied by artisan miners in the past quarter was 488 kilograms more than what was acquired in the previous financial he said. The increase in amount translates to an increase of 23.2 million US dollars in revenue according to Bacha.

Ethiopian Auction for Boeing 725 Unsuccessful

Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s flag carrier, failed to sell a Boeing 725 aircraft at an auction which listed the aircraft for 80,000 birr. The airplane is being auctioned for the breach of a maintenance contract between Ethiopian Airlines and owners Trans-Saharan Airlines. 

Ethiopian Airlines requested the High Court to postpone the sell because only seven bidders took part in the auction.

Ethiopian Authority Graduates 8 Air Traffic Controllers

The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority graduated eight air traffic controllers trained to use both Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast technology and Surveillance System Radar.

The training offered is part of the agreement between ICAO Technical Cooperation Bureau and the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority to train a total of 24 air traffic controllers.

The Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast technology is a more advance, accurate and cost effective as compated to the radar system said Muhammad Kuwaji, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Project Coordinator speaking at the graduation ceremony.
