Ethiopian Sugar Corporation and Ursus, Polish Company inked a deal worth USD 30.6 for deliveries of tractors, trailers and spare parts which will serve for sugar cane transportation, The Daily Monitor reported.
The Ethiopian Sugar Corporation said, expansion projects carried out on existing sugar factories during the previous fiscal year has enabled the country to meet the local demand for sugar.
Zemedkun Tekle, corporate communication director with the Corporation, told Ethiopian News Agency on Friday that, the expansion has been undertaken in Wonji Shoa, Fincha, Metehara and Tendaho sugar factories.
Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity (MWIE) disclosed once the construction of the sugar factories being undertaken is completed, Ethiopia will be able to generate more than 200 megawatts from sugarcane by-products.
Ethiopian Sugar Industry Group announced that all sugar factories would start production in mid November after completing their maintenance. The Group was given the responsibility to manage the sugar factories and projects and enable them to be capable of running themselves.
Arjo Dedessa Sugar Development project is to begin trial production this month with an initial crushing capacity of 5,000 tons of sugar per day, according to Addis Fortune.
