The Ethiopian Sugar Corporation said, expansion projects carried out on existing sugar factories during the previous fiscal year has enabled the country to meet the local demand for sugar.
Zemedkun Tekle, corporate communication director with the Corporation, told Ethiopian News Agency on Friday that, the expansion has been undertaken in Wonji Shoa, Fincha, Metehara and Tendaho sugar factories.
The expansion enabled the factories to increase their annual production capacity to 95,000 tons, 200,000 tons, 130,000 tons and 123,000 tons respectively.
Currently, the factories produce a total of 548,000 tons sugar per annum, which surpasses the estimated local demand by 48,000 tons, Zemedkun said.
