Chinese footwear company, Hujuan, is to begin operations in Ethiopia. Hujuan commenced investment activities in Ethiopia two months ago and is in the final stages of constructing a factory in Dukem. The factory is expected to produce 3000 pairs of shoes daily for export.

Hujan anticipates that production will begin in its Ethiopian factory early in the New Year according to Berhanu Nigus, Head of Quality Testing and Certification Services at the Leather Industry Development Institute.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said USD 4 billion Chinese investment was operating in Ethiopia. According to a spokesperson of the Ministry, there are 400 Chinese investment projects with over hundred thousand job opportunities in Ethiopia of which 100 projects were established in joint venture with Ethiopian partners.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Zhao Xiuan, revealed that Chinese companies had created 560,000 job opportunities in Ethiopia. According to the Ambassador, 1,835 direct Chinese investment projects worth USD 4.8 billion have been invested in Ethiopia.

A group of Chinese investors are in Ethiopia for a six day business visit, The Ethiopian Herald reported. The investors are from different economic sectors.

Chinese investors expressed their interest to attend the Invest Ethiopia 2023 Forum. The investors showed their interest to attend the forum during a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the People’s Republic of China, Tefera Derbew.
