Marriott Bonvoy and Ethiopian Airlines have announced a new partnership that allows members of their respective loyalty programmes to earn and redeem points and miles across hotel stays and flights.
Under the arrangement, members of Marriott Bonvoy and ShebaMiles, Ethiopian Airlines’ frequent flyer programme, can convert ShebaMiles into Marriott Bonvoy points for hotel stays, upgrades, and other benefits. Marriott Bonvoy points can also be converted into ShebaMiles for flight bookings. In addition, guests staying at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties can choose to earn either Marriott Bonvoy points or ShebaMiles.
The partnership links Ethiopian Airlines’ network of more than 145 destinations with Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of over 30 hotel brands and 10,000 destinations worldwide. The companies said the collaboration is intended to provide travellers with greater flexibility in how they use loyalty rewards.
Marriott International said the partnership reflects its focus on expanding loyalty benefits in Africa and other growing travel markets. Ethiopian Airlines said the arrangement is part of its efforts to enhance the ShebaMiles member experience and broaden service offerings through strategic partnerships.
Through Ethiopian Airlines’ Star Alliance membership, ShebaMiles members can access flight redemptions and cabin upgrades across 25 partner airlines serving more than 1,150 destinations. Marriott Bonvoy members who transfer points into ShebaMiles will also be able to use those miles within the broader Star Alliance network.
Under the conversion structure, ShebaMiles can be converted to Marriott Bonvoy points at a ratio of 2:1. Marriott Bonvoy points can be converted to ShebaMiles at a ratio of 3:1, with members receiving an additional 5,000 ShebaMiles for every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points transferred in a single transaction.
On eligible stays at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties, members can earn up to two ShebaMiles per US dollar spent, or choose to earn Marriott Bonvoy points under the standard programme terms.
The companies said members must be enrolled in both Marriott Bonvoy and ShebaMiles to use the benefits offered through the partnership. Account linking is not required.
