Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest aviation group, has reported USD 4.4 billion in revenue during the first six months of Ethiopia’s current fiscal year, reflecting a 14 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Speaking at a media briefing in Addis Ababa today, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew attributed the strong performance to continued growth in the airline’s passenger services, cargo operations, and fleet expansion.

In the cargo sector, Ethiopian Airlines transported 451,000 tons of cargo, highlighting its increasing role in supporting regional and global supply chains.

The CEO also disclosed that the airline generated USD 2.5 million from the sale of spare parts, while investing Birr 260 million in voluntary and community development initiatives.

On infrastructure expansion, Mesfin provided an update on the Bishoftu International Airport project, which was recently inaugurated. He stated that construction is progressing at a rapid pace and is expected to be completed by January next year.
