The retail prices of petroleum products in Ethiopia have been increased by up to Birr 8, according to the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration. The revised prices took effect from 12 PM. today.
Under the new adjustment, the retail price of gasoline has increased by approximately Birr 7, while kerosene has risen by about Birr 8. Following the increase, the prices of gasoline, kerosene, and white diesel have been set at Birr 129.12 per litre.
In recent weeks, there has been public discussion linking changes in fuel prices to the application of value added tax and excise tax measures, which together amount to a total rate of 30 percent and have been in effect since December.
However, the price adjustment notice issued by the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration to fuel suppliers does not reference any new or additional tax measures as the basis for the latest price increase.
The Ministry has not provided further details on the specific factors that led to the adjustment.
