Ethiopian Airlines has placed an order for 11 additional Boeing 737-8 aircraft, expanding its 737 MAX fleet as part of its broader network and hub development strategy. The agreement was announced during the Dubai Airshow.
According to the airline, the purchase will support ongoing efforts to strengthen both regional and international operations, with the added aircraft expected to enhance efficiency and capacity at its Addis Ababa hub.
The 737 MAX is currently deployed by Ethiopian Airlines on routes across Africa, the Middle East, India, and Southern Europe, markets that require high-frequency service and quick turnaround times. The new order reinforces the carrier’s position as the largest Boeing operator in Africa, and it maintains one of the continent’s biggest backlogs of Boeing aircraft, including the 737 MAX, 777X, and 787 Dreamliner.
Boeing stated that the agreement further builds on its long-standing relationship with the airline, which spans nearly eight decades. The manufacturer noted that the aircraft will support Ethiopian Airlines’ continued growth and connectivity plans.
Both companies highlighted the importance of efficiency and fleet modernization, with Boeing reiterating its focus on safety, quality, and sustainable aviation development.
