Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance, in partnership with the Ethiopian Railways Corporation, has issued an invitation for global and local investors to express interest in the development of the Indode Intermodal Rail Terminal, Dry Port, and Logistics Center. Located just 26 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa, the project is a key part of the country’s broader push to enhance private sector involvement in the transport sector.

In a statement, the Ministry of Finance highlighted that Ethiopia, through its recent reform programs, aims to open up the transport sector to greater private participation. Currently, the sector is largely dominated by public and freight transport services, with limited private sector engagement in areas like dry port, railway terminal development, and logistics services.

The government has launched a Request for Expression of Interest (REOI) for the design, build, finance, operation, and maintenance (DBFOM) of the Indode Intermodal Rail Terminal, Dry Port, and Logistics Center. The project site, located in central Ethiopia, lies along the critical intermodal corridor between Djibouti and Addis Ababa, close to the Greater Addis Ababa Area, Ethiopia’s main consumer hub.
